Your water service line is likely made of copper
Copper plumbing is typically more than 99.9% pure copper and therefore does not pose a risk of lead exposure.
Copper plumbing contains the following characteristics:
- Scratches with a key or coin, and is orange or copper in color
- Magnet does not stick
There’s still a chance you could have lead solder or fittings somewhere in your plumbing.
- Charlotte Water can test the water from your home upon request to determine if there is lead in your water. Call 311 to request a sample kit and receive further instructions.
