Your water service line is likely lead
Lead pipes are more likely to be found in older cities and homes built before 1986, and have the following characteristics:
- Dull gray in color
- Easily scratched surface
- Magnet does not stick
You should consider replacing your water service line, although having a lead water service line does not necessarily mean you have lead in your water.
- Charlotte Water can test the water from your home upon request to determine if there is lead in your water. Call 311 to request a sample kit and receive further instructions.
