Your water service line is made of plastic
Plastic water service lines do not pose a risk for lead exposure.
Plastic plumbing is more common in newer homes and typically has the following characteristics:
- Often white or gray pipes
- No shine when scratched
- Magnet does not stick
While plastic service lines do not typically pose a risk for lead exposure, there’s still a chance you could have lead solder or fittings somewhere in your plumbing.
- Charlotte Water can test the water from your home upon request to determine if there is lead in your water. Call 311 to request a sample kit and receive further instructions.
