Charlotte Water has monitored for lead for decades with no apparent risk of lead exposure from the public distribution system. Our well-trained laboratory analysts and water quality professionals perform more than 175,000 tests per year on your drinking water to ensure its safety.
We proudly report that Charlotte Water delivered high-quality, clean drinking water with zero water quality violations in 2023. Charlotte Water staff work 24/7, 365 days a year to ensure that we meet and exceed drinking water standards. Water quality reports are released annually.
To protect water quality as much as possible, Charlotte Water engages in corrosion control measures. Metals like lead and copper are more likely to leach at lower drinking water pH, so we have increased the pH of our water to reduce corrosion and the possibility of leaching. We also operate a highly pressurized system to reduce opportunities for stagnancy (decreased water contact time with materials decreases the risk of corrosion).
